The Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) has sent a message of condolence to Mama Ida Odinga, the entire Odinga family, the nation and the world following the untimely death of former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga.
In the message on behalf of the Commission, the SRC Chairperson Sammy Chepkwony said the late Raila will be remembered as a distinguished statesman, having made great sacrifices in championing for the expansion of the democratic space and the rule of law.
Chepkwony attributed the democratic space and personal freedoms that Kenyans enjoy today to Raila’s relentless struggle, which he noted was done at the great cost to his own freedoms.
He said the former Prime Minister spent most of his life advocating and fighting for the betterment and dignity of Kenyans from all walks of life, a legacy that Kenyans will cherish. “His life was one of commitment and devotion to public service, having served as Prime Minister, Minister, Member of Parliament and party leader for decades,” he stated.
The SRC Chairperson further noted that Raila’s unwavering dedication to national values, justice, equality, accountability and integrity epitomised true patriotism.
Chepkwony mentioned that Raila’s inspiration transcended Kenya’s borders into the outer world, a footstep the Chairperson noted was followed by millions in pursuing the cause of freedom, justice, good governance and development that he so passionately dedicated his entire life towards.
He said the country has lost a true statesman, a beacon of hope, a man who placed his beloved country first. “Through his inspiration and mentorship, the work done by the late Raila will continue to thrive and blossom. His legacy will immortalise him and keep his memory alive through generations to come,” he added.
