A 3-year-old boy stolen from the parents’ Ruiru home has been safely rescued, with two suspected human traffickers arrested in a cross-county police operation.
A bold rescue mission by detectives has brought hope to a devastated family after their 3-year-old son was found safe, days after being stolen from their home in Ruiru, Kiambu County. The mission, launched following a report filed at Ruiru Police Station, led to the arrest of two suspects in Nyeri County.
Detectives from the Anti-Human Trafficking and Child Protection Unit traced the suspected traffickers across counties, following leads that pointed to a child trafficking ring operating between Central and Western regions. After days of surveillance and intelligence gathering, officers raided a house in Tetu, Nyeri County, where they found the child in the company of two men.
The suspects, identified as George Maina, the house owner and Samuel Juma, the man alleged to have abducted the child from Ruiru, were arrested on the spot. The child, though appearing unharmed, was immediately taken to a medical facility for examination.
According to Ruiru Police Commander Catherine Wanjiku, the operation was one of the most intense in recent months due to the growing number of child abduction cases. “We worked around the clock, and I’m proud of our team’s dedication. These arrests are just the beginning. We are pursuing other suspects linked to a wider trafficking network,”.
Locals in Tetu were shocked by the incident. James Njoroge, a resident, expressed concern: “We never imagined such crime would be happening right here. It’s frightening, especially for parents.”
The suspects are currently in custody awaiting arraignment as investigations continue.
Authorities have warned parents to remain alert, noting a rise in child trafficking cases nationwide. The Anti-Human Trafficking and Child Protection Unit has pledged to intensify efforts to dismantle such syndicates.
The rescued child is expected to be reunited with his parents once doctors confirm he is in stable condition.
Police have urged anyone with information related to child trafficking to report anonymously and help safeguard children’s futures.
