Teso North MP launches construction of Sh30 million classroom block

The Member of Parliament for Teso North Constituency Oku Kaunya on Friday laid the foundation stone for construction of an eight storey classroom block   at Malaba Comprehensive primary school.

The construction of the building for the school that has a population of over 2,500 learners  will be funded by Teso North National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) at a total cost of Sh30 million.

Speaking after handing over the site to the contractor, Kaunya said the building will also consist of an administration block for teachers easing congestion and improve learning conditions at the school.

“Our children deserve safe, decent and comfortable classrooms where they can concentrate and do their best,” said Kaunya.

He urged the contractor to deliver quality work and complete the project within the agreed timelines to avoid delays.

The MP noted that the Malaba project marks the beginning of a wider plan to improve school infrastructure across Teso North, adding that due to limited resources the developments will be implemented in phases.

Under the plan, the NG-CDF will start by constructing one storey classroom block per ward in selected schools before extending the programme to other schools.

Kaunya also congratulated schools in the constituency for their improved performance in the 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations, saying education remains a top priority.

“We will continue to invest in education since we are concerned about the future of our children and the entire community,” he added.
