Three Nyamira MCAs sworn in after by-elections

Three Members of the Nyamira County Assembly elected in the November 27 by-elections have officially taken the oath of office, marking the completion of the electoral process for the affected wards.

Jackson Mogusu of Nyansiongo Ward, Jeremiah Ongaro of Ekerenyo Ward, and Christopher Osiemo of Nyamaiya Ward were sworn in on Monday during a special sitting of the Nyamira County Assembly presided over by the Speaker.

Each of the three Members was accorded an opportunity to individually take the oath of office in a ceremony witnessed by fellow MCAs, county officials, and members of the public.

While taking the oath, the newly sworn-in Members pledged to serve the people of the Republic of Kenya faithfully and diligently, to discharge the duties of their office without fear, favour, or prejudice, and to uphold, protect, and defend the Constitution of Kenya as well as the laws and conventions governing parliamentary practice.

They further committed to administering justice to all persons without discrimination, regardless of status or circumstance, in the execution of their legislative, oversight, and representative roles.

Nyansiongo Ward MCA Jackson Mogusu, in his maiden address, commended the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) for conducting the by-election professionally, saying the process reflected the will of the electorate.

“I will execute my oversight and representation duties efficiently to ensure that all development projects requested and approved for Nyansiongo Ward are fully implemented,” said Mr Mogusu.

He added that he would work closely with fellow MCAs and county leadership to promote unity of purpose and effective service delivery across Nyamira County.

Ekerenyo Ward MCA Jeremiah Ongaro pledged continuity in leadership, stating that he would consult widely, including with his predecessor, to ensure that ongoing programmes and projects benefit residents before the next General Election.

“I am committed to ensuring that all laid-down development initiatives for Ekerenyo Ward are completed and that the people receive the services they deserve,” Mr Ongaro said.

Nyamaiya Ward MCA Christopher Osiemo pledged to continue the legacy of his late brother, who previously held the seat, by fostering unity among Members of the County Assembly.

Mr Osiemo noted that prolonged leadership wrangles had previously hampered service delivery and expressed his determination to promote cooperation among MCAs to fast-track development projects for the benefit of Nyamira residents.

The Nyansiongo Ward seat fell vacant after a court ordered a by-election following a successful election petition challenging the initial results announced by IEBC.

The Ekerenyo Ward seat became vacant after the former MCA was appointed Speaker of the Nyamira County Assembly following the impeachment of the previous Speaker.

Nyamaiya Ward seat fell vacant after the MCA elected in 2022 died in a road accident in August 2023. His younger brother, Christopher Osiemo, was subsequently elected in the by-election.
