Treasury lauded for ensuring prompt payment to county contractors

Gem Member of Parliament Elisha Odhiambo has hailed The National Treasury for introducing tough measures that will ensure contractors working for County governments get prompt payment immediately after they complete their tasks.

According to the Legislator, the introduction of a system linking committed Local Purchase Orders (LPOs) to the Office of the Controller of Budget and The National Treasury will see the pending bills become a thing of the past.

Speaking to the media after meeting Church of Christ in Africa members at Ramula in East Gem Location in Siaya County, Odhiambo lamented that for years, contractors doing business with County governments, have been made to wait for payment for long after money meant to clear their dues is channelled to unbudgetedactivities.

“The Cabinet Secretary for Treasury, John Mbadi, deserves commendation for creating a system where debtors in the County governments can be paid without the money being transferred to other entities,” he said.

Odhiambo said the timely decision would save many entrepreneurs from the jaws of corrupt county officials, who have been frustrating contractors in the counties.

“Going forward, and I believe that this is an initiative of President William Ruto, people doing business in counties will be paid on time and the money meant to settle their dues will not be diverted by the corrupt individuals,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Legislator has called on the government to ensure that all Affordable Housing projects are fixed with solar panels.

Odhiambo said there is a need for the country to adopt green energy, as it is now a trend globally.

He called on Kenyans to learn to appreciate their leaders who perform well in their dockets and named the Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi for ensuring fair distribution of electricity and Head of National Intelligence Service Noordin Haji for safeguarding the country.
