Uasin Gishu County Administration on Friday flagged off scouts from across the county to mark the Scouts Founder’s Day celebrations at the county headquarters in Eldoret City. The event commemorated the 169th birthday of Lord Robert Baden-Powell, born on February 22, 1857.
Speaking at the event, Uasin Gishu Deputy Governor Evans Kapkea highlighted the Scouts Movement’s vital role in shaping learners by instilling discipline, responsibility, and strong moral values.
The scout members in Uasin Gishu observed the global day a week earlier, as the Scout Founder’s Day is celebrated annually on February 22 to honor the joint birthdays of Lord Robert Baden-Powell and his wife, Olave Baden-Powell, the World Chief Guide.
The global celebrations emphasize scouting values and feature parades, community service, tree planting, and renewal of the Scout Promise.
Deputy Governor Kapkea revealed that Uasin Gishu ranks second nationally in enrolment under the Kenya Scouts Association, reflecting the movement’s strength and vibrancy within county institutions.
“The movement provides a safe and structured space where young people grow into confident, service-driven leaders,” he noted.
