Uasin Gishu warns against indoor charcoal use during cold

Residents of Uasin Gishu County, particularly those living in the southern areas, are advised to avoid lighting charcoal Jikos in poorly ventilated rooms to fight cold, as temperatures are expected to drop as low as 9 degrees Celsius at night over the next one week.

This advisory was issued by the County Director of Meteorological Services, Kipkemei Simon Cheptot, after a weather forecast for the next one week.

The weekly forecast also indicates that the county will experience a high temperature of between 27 and 29 degrees Celsius over the week, while the minimum temperature range is between 9 and 10 degrees Celsius.

Sunny intervals are expected over several places in the morning across the County and early morning fog is expected over a few places in Moi’s-bridge Ward.

The afternoon and evening weather patterns will be partly cloudy, with some areas, including Karuna Meibeki in Moiben Sub County and the southern parts of the county, likely to experience light showers.

The weather at night will be partly cloudy over a few places, giving way to clear skies over several places in the county. “The high temperatures are likely to cause dehydration. Residents are therefore advised to take plenty of fluids,” noted the County Director.

“Temperatures are expected to drop to as low as 90 degrees C, especially over the southern areas of the county. Residents are therefore advised to avoid lighting charcoal Jikos in poorly ventilated rooms,” added Cheptot.

He advised residents to be very careful with fire, as the prevailing daytime high temperatures and winds can easily spark and spread fire.

Additionally, Motorists using the Eldoret–Kitale and Eldoret–Webuye roads are urged to drive carefully because the expected early morning fog is likely to reduce visibility.
