Vihiga County launches ‘Ugatuzi Wall’ to boost youth engagement in governance

Vihiga County Government has in collaboration with Shining Hope for Communities (SHOFCO), unveiled an ‘Ugatuzi Wall’ at the Governor’s office, a participatory platform designed to amplify public voices, especially those of the youth, in county governance and service delivery.

The interactive wall invites residents to share opinions, concerns, and suggestions on key issues such as devolution, youth empowerment, and public service performance.

The initiative is part of a broader push to strengthen citizen engagement in policy-making, budgeting, and development planning.

Insights gathered through the Ugatuzi Wall will inform deliberations at the 2025 Devolution Conference, set to take place from August 12-15 in Homa Bay County, where stakeholders will assess the progress of devolution and outline future priorities.

Launched under a March 2024 Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between SHOFCO and the County Government, the initiative complements ongoing programmes in health, education, agriculture, gender, environment, and youth and women empowerment.

In addition to the physical wall, citizens can conveniently share their views online via: https://shorturl.at/tbRMC.

This initiative reaffirms Vihiga’s dedication to inclusive governance and provides a valuable opportunity for young people to shape the development agenda of their communities.
