Vihiga County to Scale up ECDE Uji Feeding Programme

The County Government of Vihiga is set to scale up the Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) Uji Premix feeding programme currently benefiting 5,229 learners in 55 schools.

County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Education, Science, Technical and Vocational Training, Anne Desma, disclosed that the programme will be expanded through a phased ward-by-ward rollout to enhance monitoring, accountability, and peer learning.

Desma spoke during a consultative meeting with officials from the Sustainable Organic Farming and Development Initiatives (SOFDI) led by International Director Autumn Totton.

The discussions centred on developing a joint implementation framework to define the roles of the County Government and SOFDI, the need for personnel to support implementation, and the impact assessment of the pilot phase, which indicated improved nutrition, attendance, and learning outcomes among ECDE learners.

The CECM underscored that school feeding is an investment in children’s future and urged parents to embrace the integrated soya farming initiative to promote sustainability and community empowerment.
