Vihiga widows seek protection

Widows in Vihiga county have appealed for protection from harassment and denial of inheritance rights,

They said such injustices deprive them of the opportunity to raise their children in peace.

Speaking during the close of a one-week widows’ training at Vumale PAG church, Chairperson of Creators of Peace Group, Florence Kangahi said widows should be allowed to live on their land without interference.

She noted that many of them face challenges in acquiring title deeds, leaving them vulnerable to constant disputes.

During the forum, some widows shared their struggles including living like squatters due to lack of documentation and being unable to access government support.

They further pointed out that acquiring a title deed remains costly and out of reach for most of them.

The training, which brought together more than 30 widows, also highlighted difficulties they face in educating their children.

The participants urged the public and government to stand with them in securing their rights to land and inheritance.
