The bodaboda industry in Vihiga has become a role model for other counties in Kenya.
The County Executive Committee Member (CECM) in charge of Commerce, Tourism and Cooperatives, Joseph Lunani, recently welcomed bodaboda operators from Trans-Nzoia and Busia counties to Vihiga for a benchmarking exercise.
The aim was to showcase the successful collaboration between the boda boda industry and the Vihiga county government.
During the visit, Lunani shared the achievements of the industry in the region and emphasized the importance of planning and cooperation.
He encouraged the visiting operators to come up with a development plan, join cooperatives, embrace partnerships, and pay taxes for sustainable development.
At the same time, he highlighted the economic impact of the boda boda industry in Vihiga and how it has helped operators save and develop themselves.
“Here in Vihiga, our boda boda operators are organized in economic groups that help them save and grow,” he stated.
He added that this model of organization and collaboration has made Vihiga’s bodaboda industry a success story and a model that other counties can learn from.
The visiting operators from Trans-Nzoia and Busia counties were impressed by the activities of their Vihiga colleagues and promised to replicate similar strategies in their respective regions.
The success of Vihiga’s boda boda industry serves as an inspiration to other counties looking to enhance the livelihoods of operators and promote sustainable transportation solutions.
