Widows in Bomachoge Borabu receive Sh3 million support

Widows from Bomachoge Borabu Constituency in Kisii have a reason to smile after they received over Sh3 million to support their livelihood under a widow’s empowerment initiative.

The initiative dubbed ‘Kikao na Wajane’ that had a fundraising event to raise the money was hosted by the area Member of Parliament (MP) Obadiah Barongo and attended by leaders allied to the Kenya Moja Alliance.

Speaking during the fundraiser at Magena Primary School in the constituency, Barongo said the initiative targeted widows because they were among the most vulnerable members of the community.

Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba, who was in attendance, encouraged the widows to rebuild their lives despite losing loved ones.

“As leaders, we are committed to supporting you as you journey through life so that you can be an inspiration to your communities,” she said.

Wamuchomba also urged Kisii residents to support and vote women into leadership positions in the upcoming 2027 general elections.

The MP decried the election of only one female Member of County Assembly (MCA) in Kisii and Nyamira Counties and urged the male politicians to root for women leadership in the Gusii region.

Other Members of Parliament present included Clive Gisairo (Kitutu Masaba), Joshua Kimilu (Kaiti), Anthony Kibagendi (Kitutu Chache South), Jack Omboka (Bumula), Ojiambo Oundo (Funyula) and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, among others.
