Principal Secretary for Tourism John Olotua has called on youth in Narok to take advantage of the National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement (NYOTA) programme to grow their businesses.
The programme was launched in March this year with an aim of benefiting young people between the age of 18 and 29 years old but for persons with disability between the age of 18 and 35 years.
Olotua said the purpose of the meeting was to sensitise the elected leaders and National Government Administrative Officers (NGAO) who would be able to cascade the information to the grassroots.
He said, already, over 1.4 million youths around the country have benefited from the World Bank programme.
“President William Ruto thought it wise to reopen the application exercise once again so as to be able to give an opportunity to the youths who had not earlier applied,” said the PS.
“From today (Monday), the portal will be open until 12th October, 2025, hence any youth that has not been able to apply should dial *254#, then follow the simple instructions,” he explained.
The money is given as a grant and each of the 70 beneficiaries from every ward will get Sh50, 000 to expand their businesses. Also, the purpose of the programme is to encourage the youth to create a saving culture.
The other component of the programme is training, where the young people who have not attained college education are given an opportunity to train on the courses of their choice.
“The reason why the programme is taken to every ward level is to ensure all youths are informed and benefit,” he stated, adding that the application is online, to ensure the right beneficiaries get the money and that it captures all the wards in the country.
Narok County Deputy Governor Tamalinye Koech called on many youths who have a form four (4) and below education to apply to benefit from the programme in order to boost their livelihood.
He thanked the Kenya Kwanza administration for coming up with many programmes that benefit young people among them the construction of ICT hubs and equipping Youth Empowerment Centers in every constituency.
Present during the event that was held at the Narok North Youth Empowerment Hall were Narok County Commissioner Kipkech Lotiatia, Narok County Secretary Mayian Tuya and a number of Members of County Assembly (MCAs).
