Youth encouraged to venture into business

Tourism and Wildlife Cabinet Secretary (CS) Rebecca Miano has urged youths to utilize government opportunities to start their own businesses.

Miano said the government is focusing on the youth by offering opportunities for special groups, encouraging them to utilize these chances for self-advancement.

Speaking in a business forum in Nyahururu town, the CS emphasized the current challenges of a declining job market and suggested that entrepreneurship is a viable path for the youth, stating that what is essential for starting a business is a combination of courage, skills and confidence.

“Every year the office or formal jobs are becoming scarce and sometimes even when they are available, they don’t have the necessary satisfaction that one is probably looking for. You need to know how to venture into business,” she advised the youth.

Additionally, Miano noted it’s the government’s responsibility to enable individuals seeking to start businesses to access startup capital, with resources like Kenya Development Corporation and Youth Fund available to assist in this endeavor.

Furthermore, the CS encouraged the youths to acquire capacity building through institutions such as Kenya Industrial Research and Development Institute that help the young people with their startups, ideas and incubation space, where young people can try their business.

“Young people are innovative and tech savvy and have energy in the technology space, can try opportunity guides, eco-tourism facilities, virtual realities among others that they can utilize to serve clients all over the world,” added the CS.

Miano encouraged the youth not to consider the ideas they have as small and unattainable, but should rather package the idea and confidently start something.

She encouraged young individuals to seek mentorship in business and cautioned them against procrastination, emphasizing that there is never a perfect time to begin a business.

Instead, the CS advised that they should act immediately on their ideas and implement them as soon as possible.

Hence, she promised to establish a hub in Nyahururu town to assist those in need of help in startup businesses.

Meanwhile, the CS launched a barber shop and Spa for a youthful entrepreneur during a forum involving over 40 Nyahururu town businesses.
