36 ambulances to provide emergency medical coverage

The Principal Secretary for Medical Services, Dr Ouma Oluga, has announced the mobilisation of thirty-six (36) ambulances to provide emergency medical coverage during the reception of the body of the late former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on October 16, 2025.

Dr Oluga noted that each ambulance is fully equipped with Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Life Support (ALS) facilities and staffed with a paramedic, nurse, and driver, ensuring effective on-site emergency response and safe patient evacuation when necessary.

In a statement today, the PS deployed 20 ambulances from the Kenya Red Cross, four from St John Ambulance, three from the Nairobi Disaster Service, eight ambulances from the Nairobi Emergency Services and one from the Kenyatta National Hospital.

A Port Health ambulance will also remain on standby at JKIA to provide supplementary medical support and coordinate with other responding teams.

Dr Oluga added that mobilization efforts are ongoing to ensure full emergency medical coverage in Kisumu and Siaya Counties as national arrangements continue.

Earlier on, the PS had issued a condolence message from the State Department for Medical Services as the country mourns the passing of Odinga, whom he termed as a revered statesman, visionary leader, and tireless defender of democracy and social justice.

“Kenya has lost a true patriot whose vision and integrity will continue to guide future generations. His legacy of resilience and courage will live on in the hearts of all who believe in a united, progressive and peaceful Kenya,” Dr Oluga said.
