50 self-help groups receive Sh4.9million in Kajiado

Youth, Women and Persons Living with Disabilities in Kajiado Central have been urged to form and register self-help groups so as to access national government funds.

Kajiado Central Constituency Member of Parliament Memusi Kanchori, noted that the government has rolled out numerous programmes such as Uwezo fund, Women Enterprise Fund, National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF) among others to enable them better their lives economically.

Speaking in Kajiado town after distributing Sh4.9 Million to 50 self-help groups from the Uwezo Fund kitty, Kanchori noted that many locals have not benefitted from the funds as they applied for the money individually as opposed to registered groups.

The Legislator noted that the Uwezo Fund offers interest free loans to youth, women and Person Living with Disabilities (PLWD) thus they should take advantage of the opportunity to venture into small enterprise business projects.

“The loans target those who cannot apply for loans from banks as they do not have any security. The loans are interest free and all groups should take advantage and apply for the funds so as to empower themselves financially,” Kanchori noted.

He further advised the groups who benefited from the funds to venture into various activities as opposed to livestock keeping as prolonged periods of drought and diminished land sizes have made it no longer economical.

Noting that the General Elections was drawing close, the MP warned the locals especially the youth against allowing themselves to be used by politicians to cause chaos.

He urged them to reject handouts from politicians seeking various seats and only elect leaders who will advocate for their development agenda.

“We are in an election year and even as campaigns continue, I want to urge the youth not to accept handouts from those seeking political seats and to avoid being used to cause violence,” he added.
