The Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Church has criticized parents who have abdicated their cardinal responsibility of parental guidance, counseling and inculcating high moral standards to their children.
During a family life lesson at the Voice of Hope SDA Church in Uriri Sub-County over the weekend, Pastor Ken Adiang’ regretted that parents no longer spend enough time with their children to mold them into responsible human beings in their lifetime.
Pastor Adiang’ said that the current ‘I Don’t Care’ behavior adopted by most parents on the life of the teenagers other-wise known as the Millennials (born between 1981 to 2000) and Generation Z (born 2001 to 2020) has allowed the youth to be exposed to the negative influence of the mass media.
The Church leader observed that social media, television, video and magazines had regrettably assumed the role of the parents who have abandoned their children to the silver screen, which impacts bad morals and anti-social tendencies.
He said girls were the most affected as they fell prey to early pregnancy, early marriage and other forms of violence within the society.
Consequently, Pastor Adinag’ appealed to parents to ensure girls were provided with equal education opportunities as boys so that they could attain professional academic levels to enable them to compete at par with their male counterparts.
“Let us all discourage our children against involvement in immoral behaviours and illicit sexual relationships that could expose them to the dangers of contracting sexually transmitted diseases and early pregnancies,” he told the family life class.
He said the bible was a major tool to be used at all times by parents to teach and inculcate good morals in their children as they get the much-needed spiritual nourishment to serve their God well in their lifetime.
“I also appeal to both political and religious leaders in this region to champion the fight against immorality among the youth for the sake of their good development and better future lives,” he added.
