Men encouraged to speak up

Nyandarua County Women Representative Faith Gitau has called on men in the region to arise and play their roles responsibly.

As a way of restoring the dignity and power of a man, the women representative on Tuesday called upon men to rise up and take their position in the society.

She said there was a need for men to awaken and tackle the challenges they were facing right from their homes, community and the country as a whole.

Ms. Gitau noted that majority of men were suffering in silence urging them to embrace power of communication.

“There is a need for men to embrace the power of communication and seek help from persons they trust in order to overcome such challenges,” noted the MP.

She spoke at Huhoini village in Rurii Ward of Ol-Kalou Constituency when she met groups of men from the area.

She further urged men to be speaking up against gender-based violence as a way of combating violations of human rights and life-threatening health.

The Women Representative said majority of men were either committing suicide or resulting to murder when they are unable to share their struggles.

“Many of the men do not speak up about what they are going through and hence suffer in silence,” she added.
