Cardiology patients to get free treatment

Tens of cardiology patients in south Nyanza region have a reason to smile after the Ministry of Health and a private health facility based in the Kisii county headquarters organized a free medical camp in Kisii county headquarters.

The free medical camp which will be carried out at Mediforte Hospital in Kisii town on Friday will also assist patients with specialised treatment, including oncology, kidney, and neurology among others.

Addressing the press at the facility, the Hospital Officer in charge of Compliance Evans Nyabuti explained that the gesture was aimed at giving back to the community after realising gaps in health services for patients requiring specialised treatment.

Nyabuti who is also an advisor to the Chief Executive Officer said the hospital, located along hospital road in Kisii town, was also in partnership with specialist doctors from India and Turkey among other countries and would mount the free medical services on September 5, 2025.

“During the free clinic, patients will engage directly or virtually with the specialised doctors,” he said.

The administrator revealed that according to research, 200,000 patients with cardiac complications travelled many kilometres to Eldoret and Nairobi in search of the specialised medication every year.

Another 70 percent with neurospine condition previously flew to India for high-end medical solutions, he added.

He said the number had currently reduced to 30 percent after the hospital improvised local solutions where cardiologists from abroad were consulted online to attend to patients free of charge.

With the free medical camp, patients will be examined and attended to, while others would be referred for comprehensive medical treatment, for which Social Health Insurance among other institutions, was expected to cater.

A patient at the hospital, Shelphin Isaac commended the free medical services saying patients could not afford cardiac tests owing to harsh economic times.

“I will be checked to confirm I am okay, or if otherwise, I will get direction on what to do next,” she said.

Another patient at the hospital, Moses Wagunda, said he was happy to hear there’s a medical camp to get free consultation and urged the elderly to attend for support and treatment.

He applauded the Ministry of Health for collaborating with private hospitals to ensure a healthy nation.
