Imenti Development Forum (IDF) has launched its fourth ICT hub in Ngiine, North Imenti, in a move aimed at empowering local youth and enhancing digital access in the region.
This is among three others already established in Ithimbari (South Imenti), Kathanga (Central Imenti), and Kithima in Buuri.
Speaking during the launch, IDF Chairman Dr Kairu Magambo emphasised the organisation’s mission to uplift the boy child as the core mandate of forming the forum, as well as advocating for greater representation of the region in national development.
“This is more than a building with computers. It is a vision. These hubs are our entry point to real empowerment, ensuring our young people can access services and opportunities that bring the world closer to them,” said Dr Magambo.
The forum which is made up of professionals from the region, has been spearheading the development of ICT hubs through community partnerships, with each facility offering computer access, technical training, and support for academic research, including postgraduate-level work.
“In all our hubs, we have renovated the spaces, supplied computers, and ensured every machine is functional. We want our children to be able to design research projects, pursue master’s and PhD work, and connect to global knowledge,” Dr. Magambo added.
For sustainability, the Forum will hand over the management of the hubs to local community committees, ensuring local ownership and long-term impact.
The committees will also be tasked with expanding the initiative to sub-location levels.
“In the fullness of time, we want to see the seeds we’ve planted germinate and produce real results. By next year, we hope to hear testimonies of beneficiaries” said Dr Magambo.
He appealed to the Meru County Government to support the initiative by deploying ICT trainers and supplying additional computer equipment to boost capacity and impact.
“This is a major step in connecting our people to global opportunities. We urge the community not to let this momentum fade and ensure the continuity of the hubs,” he said.
The ICT plays a critical role in digital literacy, youth empowerment, and access to information and services in the Imenti region.
