In a bid to enhance service delivery and fast-track development, Tharaka Nithi Governor Muthomi Njuki has announced a major cabinet reshuffle, affecting several key positions in the county government.

The reshuffle, unveiled at the county headquarters in Kathwana, is part of the governor’s broader plan to align county leadership with shifting development priorities and rising citizen expectations.

“This is not just a reshuffle but a realignment of leadership to meet the dynamic needs of our people,” said Njuki, adding that they were building a team that is faster, smarter, and more accountable to the county citizens.

In the changes made, Maureen Nyambura retained her role as the County Executive for Youth, Sports, and Tourism, a docket vital for youth empowerment and tourism growth.

She will now be supported by a new Chief Officer, Alex Kinyua Mutegi, who is a new entrant into county government service, replacing Wilberforce Muriungi.

Kinyua’s appointment is expected to inject fresh energy and innovation into the department.

Kelly Karimi, who has been a Chief Officer has been appointed the county executive for  Gender and Social Services, replacing Beatrice Kathomi.

She will be working alongside Winnie Mukiri, who has been named the Chief Officer for the department.

Together, they are expected to drive the county’s gender equity and social welfare agenda.

At the same time,  Giti Kijiru has been named  county executive for Revenue and Resource Mobilization, Cooperatives Development, Trade, Investment, Mining, Energy, and Industry.

Notably, Kijiru transitions into the role alongside his Chief Officer, maintaining an existing working relationship to ensure operational continuity in this economically strategic docket.

Deputy Governor Nyaga Muisrael has taken over the Department of Roads, Transport, Infrastructure, Public Works, Housing, Urban Development, and ICT.

Like Kijiru, he has moved with his Chief Officer, a coordinated shift aimed at streamlining project execution and leadership cohesion across the infrastructure portfolio.

The reshuffle also included the redeployment and appointment of several other Chief Officers across departments, as the county government seeks to accelerate the implementation of key programmes and projects.

Governor Njuki’s administration is prioritising efficiency, accountability, and development impact as it enters the next phase of its term.

The cabinet changes come at a critical moment, as counties nationwide work to align with the targets of the Fourth Medium-Term Plan (MTP IV), under Kenya’s Vision 2030.
