Vihiga affordable housing project almost completed

The Sh536 million affordable housing project in Vihiga County is almost 96 percent done, drawing closer to the expected completion deadline of October 10, 2025.

The project has 220 units, which have been constructed at a cost of Sh536 million and once complete will ease the problem of inadequate housing within the Milimani area of Vihiga County.

In an interview with Vihiga County Director of Housing, Teresia Ooko, at the site, she said that the affordable housing project lies on a 2.032-acre piece of land and the 220 house units are in nine-story building blocks.

Ooko said there are 100 two-bedroom units on five blocks, 40 three-bedroom units on two blocks, 20 one-bedroom units on one block and 60 studio units on one block.

She added that a three-bedroom unit will cost Sh3 million, a two-bedroom unit Sh2 million, and a one-bedroom unit Sh1.5 million, while a studio will cost Sh1 million.

She called on those interested in buying the houses to go to the Boma Yangu website and pay at least five percent of the cost of the unit they wish to buy or the amount they have and they will get the houses once they finish paying.

She added that people have already started visiting the Boma Yangu website and paying for the houses and the process is very competitive.
