KDF reaffirms transparency during recruitment drive

The Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) has reiterated their commitment to integrity and fairness in the ongoing nationwide recruitment exercise, as the Homa Bay leg of the process kicked off smoothly Monday.

Lieutenant Colonel Austin Kirwa, in charge of the Homa Bay recruitment center said the turnout from the local youth was impressively high and that the exercise was progressing according to expectations.

“The recruitment has been orderly and candidates have shown great enthusiasm. We are pleased with how it has gone so far,” he said.

Kirwa explained that the recruitment aimed to fill positions requiring technical and specialized skills, with candidates undergoing aptitude and competence tests to assess suitability.

He emphasized that the recruitment process was transparent, free of corruption, and strictly merit-based, warning applicants against falling victim to fraudsters claiming to have influence over the exercise.

“KDF does not solicit or accept bribes. Let no one deceive you that they can help you join the military. The process is transparent, verifiable and based purely on merit,” he stressed.

KDF recruitment involves document verification, physical and medical screening and aptitude tests. Candidates must meet basic requirements, with age limit between 18 and 26 years for general recruits, with height, weight, and education standards varying for different categories.

The minimum height requirement for men and women is 1.60 metres and 1.52 metres respectively and a minimum weight of 54.5 kilograms for men and 50 kilograms for women.

Those who qualify are shortlisted, interviewed and subjected to further medical examinations, before being enlisted for training at the Recruits Training School in Eldoret or the Kenya Military Academy in Lanet.

The nationwide KDF recruitment exercise follows a structured and rigorous process to ensure only qualified and disciplined individuals are selected.

“So far, the candidates have undergone all the required parameters and we have only a few examinations left before wrapping up the process,” he said.

Kirwa urged the public to support the process, emphasizing that KDF’s goal is to ensure a fair recruitment exercise, where those who meet the standards earn their place on merit.
