Ruto announces Sh2.5 billion allocation for roads in Kakamega

The National Government has allocated Sh2.5 billion for the construction and improvement of roads in Kakamega County this financial year, President Dr William Ruto has announced.

He said the funds will go towards building 295 kilometres of roads across the county to boost trade, enhance connectivity and open up rural areas to economic opportunities.

President Ruto said the government is committed to improving infrastructure in the region to ease transportation challenges that have long affected farmers and traders.

“This investment will ensure that our people can easily transport their goods and access markets without difficulty. Roads are key to transforming livelihoods, and we will continue to allocate resources every year for the benefit of our people,” the President said.

He added that the improved road network will not only spur agricultural growth but also attract investors, stimulate small businesses and promote regional integration.

The President was accompanied by Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli, Cabinet Secretary for Cooperatives and SMEs Development Wycliffe Oparanya, Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa, Area MP Tindi Mwale and Woman Representative Elsie Muhanda among other leaders.

The leaders praised the road investment, terming it a major boost to Kakamega’s economy and government’s commitment to equitable development across the country.
