Farmers sensitised on KRA’s eTIMS to boost compliance and market access

In a bid to enhance compliance, promote transparency and improve access to formal markets within the agricultural value chain, a section of farmers in Uasin Gishu County were yesterday sensitised on the Kenya Revenue Authority’s Electronic Tax Invoice Management System (eTIMS).

County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Agriculture, Agribusiness, Livestock and Fisheries, Dr Sam Kotut, who led the session, emphasised the need for farmers to understand emerging digital systems that are transforming agribusiness operations.

Dr Kotut noted that as agriculture transitions from subsistence to commercial levels, farmers must adopt digital financial tools that enhance accountability and make it easier to access markets and credit facilities.

“The future of farming is digital; thus, by embracing tools like eTIMS, our farmers can operate more transparently, access credit with ease, and compete effectively in both local and international markets,” said Dr Kotut.

On his part, Chief Officer for Agriculture Eng. Abraham Kiptalam commended the initiative, noting that it aligns with Governor Dr Jonathan Bii’s agenda of equipping farmers with the knowledge and tools needed to thrive in a competitive economy.

“Equipping our farmers with such information ensures they are ready to benefit from formal markets while remaining compliant with national systems,” he said.

Uasin Gishu Director of Agriculture Reuben Seroney, on his part, urged farmers to embrace proper record-keeping and adopt digital innovations for efficient agribusiness management.

Speaking on behalf of the farmers, Paul Samoei from Kipkenyo Ward welcomed the initiative, saying the training helped demystify eTIMS and demonstrated how digital systems can make farm businesses more organised.

“We now understand that eTIMS is not just about tax but also about keeping proper records and accessing better opportunities,” said Samoei.
