Kwale Governor Fatuma Achani has commissioned a newly constructed maternity wing and a doctor’s house at Kiwegu Dispensary in Vanga ward, Lunga Lunga Sub-County, marking another milestone in the county’s efforts to improve access to quality healthcare.
The maternity facility was constructed through a partnership between the County Government of Kwale and the Kutoka Ardhini Organization as part of an ongoing initiative to strengthen healthcare delivery and promote safe baby delivery across the county.
The modern facility is fully equipped with advanced medical equipment and delivery beds, allowing expectant mothers to access essential maternity services closer to their homes.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, Governor Achani said the facility will significantly ease the burden on pregnant women who previously had to travel long distances to Lungalunga to seek delivery services.
“My administration is committed to ensuring that every resident, regardless of their location, enjoys access to affordable and reliable health services. We will continue working closely with development partners and other stakeholders to expand healthcare infrastructure and promote the wellbeing of our people,” she said.
The Governor urged healthcare workers to provide professional and compassionate care to mothers and children, emphasizing that maternal and child health remains a key priority in her administration’s agenda.
Residents of Kiwegu, led by Mwanaidi Masudi, lauded the Governor’s efforts to improve local health facilities, noting that the project has brought much-needed hope to families in the area.
“We are grateful for this facility which will save many mothers from the struggle of travelling far to give birth. It will also help reduce maternal deaths and complications,” said Masudi.
Governor Achani reaffirmed her government’s commitment to upgrading rural health centres through strategic partnerships aimed at achieving universal health coverage in Kwale County.
