Leaders call for better water, health and child protection services

Leaders in Isiolo County have called for more efforts to improve access to clean water, healthcare services and protection for children.

Newly posted Isiolo County Commissioner Mr. Chaunga Mwachaunga said many primary and secondary schools in the county have already been connected to water services.He said access to water has helped improve sanitation and created a better learning environment for students.

Mr. Mwachaunga also said security agencies will continue working with schools to ensure learners and teachers remain safe.

They made the remarks during a children’s event held at the Catholic Church Hall in Isiolo town.

All the presenters focused on children’s rights, health and the need for safe living environments.

At the same event, Chief Officer for Gender and Culture Ms. Judy Nyaga highlighted efforts being made to improve healthcare services in the county citing establishment of special clinics for the treatment and management of non-communicable diseases at Isiolo Referral Hospital and in Kinna Ward.

Ms. Nyaga said the facilities will help improve access to healthcare services for children and other residents.

Meanwhile, Children’s Services Coordinator in the County Mr. Franklin Mbiuki said the county is preparing to launch a Child Protection Policy later this year.

He said the policy is expected to be unveiled between August and September.

According to Mbiuki, the policy will help protect children’s rights and ensure they grow up in safe and supportive environments.

Leaders at the event stressed the importance of providing children with clean drinking water, proper sanitation, quality healthcare and adequate protection.

They said these services are important in improving the well-being of children and building a healthier society.
