Road upgrade to boost connectivity in Kikuyu Constituency

Residents of Kikuyu Constituency are set to benefit from improved transport and easier access to essential services following the commissioning of the upgrading of the Ngong (Kibiku)–Kangiria Road, a project expected to enhance connectivity and stimulate socio-economic development in the area.

The road improvement programme covers the Gwa-Thiru–Munyeki–Riu Nderi–Kibiku Road as well as the Musa Gitau (Ha Chege)–Kibagua–Kangiria–Riu Nderi Road, which serve as key links for residents, farmers, traders and motorists traveling within the constituency.

Speaking during the commissioning of the project, Kikuyu Member of Parliament, Kimani Ichung’wah, said the road upgrade demonstrates the government’s commitment to improving infrastructure that directly impacts the lives of people.

“These roads are more than just infrastructure; they are lifelines that connect our communities, open up markets for farmers and businesses, improve access to schools and healthcare facilities, and make daily travel safer and more convenient,” said Ichung’wah.

The legislator noted that the improved roads will reduce travel time, lower vehicle maintenance costs and facilitate the movement of agricultural produce to markets, thereby supporting local economic growth.

He added that reliable road infrastructure plays a critical role in attracting investment and encouraging business expansion while improving access to public institutions and social amenities.

Area residents welcomed the project, expressing optimism that the upgraded roads will address long-standing transport challenges, particularly during the rainy season when some sections become difficult to navigate.

The roads are expected to ease movement between villages and neighboring trading centres, enabling farmers to transport produce more efficiently while enhancing access to schools, health facilities and other government services.

The project forms part of ongoing efforts by the national government to strengthen road infrastructure across Kikuyu Constituency through the rehabilitation and upgrading of key access roads aimed at supporting economic activities and improving mobility.

Ichung’wah reaffirmed his commitment to pursuing development projects that respond to the needs of residents, saying investment in infrastructure remains a priority in transforming livelihoods and creating opportunities for growth.

He urged contractors to maintain high construction standards and complete the works within the stipulated timelines to ensure residents begin enjoying the full benefits of the upgraded roads at the earliest possible time frame.
