Uasin Gishu County praised for efficient service delivery

The National Government has commended Uasin Gishu County for its innovative County Service Centre, a one-stop hub that integrates business permit issuance with other essential services, including land rates payments.

The initiative, spearheaded by Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii, is part of a broader plan to digitise revenue collection and enhance service delivery, emphasising transparency, accountability, and citizen-focused governance.

During a visit to the centre, Secretary to the Cabinet, Mercy Wanjau, described the system as “one-of-a-kind”, noting it reflects President Dr. William Ruto’s vision for efficiency and digitisation in public service.

“I am impressed that the centre allows Wananchi to access all necessary permits in one location without being redirected to other offices. It is a model of transparency and efficiency, and Uasin Gishu will serve as a benchmark for other counties,” Mrs. Wanjau said.

County Secretary, Philip Meli, stated that Governor Bii is committed to fully digitising county services to strengthen people-centred governance. County Executive for Finance Micah Rogony added that revenue collection has steadily increased since the system’s implementation.

County Executive Committee Member for Trade Martha Cheruto highlighted that business owners can now apply for permits online and receive them promptly.

Other officials present included Chief Officer for Public Service Ruth Samoei, Licensing Director David Kebenei, Human Resource Director Nathan Koech, and ICT and Innovation Director Albert Tarus.

The centre has been widely recognised for reducing bureaucracy, improving citizen experience, and promoting digital governance across the county.
