Laikipia county assembly speaker on EACC radar over academic papers forgery.

Laikipia county Assembly Speaker Lantano Nabaala is on Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) radar over academic papers forgery claims.

On Tuesday, the Anti-corruption agency stormed the official residence of the speaker where he was grilled for nearly four hours before proceeding to the county assembly.

A letter from EACC seen by the media and dated March 27 this year and sent to the county assembly requesting for the academic papers of the speaker which they failed to submit, shows that among the documents that were being scrutinised included a degree certificate, Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) , Kenya Certificate of Primary Education that aided him acquire the speaker’s role.

EACC Central Region boss Japhet Baithalu speaking to the press on phone said that after storming the speaker’s official residence and the county assembly, they acquired crucial documents which will aid in their ongoing investigation.

‘’ We have obtained some crucial documents which we would not have otherwise gotten in our regular investigative mechanism and they are going to inform our next cause of action. These are documents which we didn’t have to wrap up the matter,” revealed Baithalu.

He added that the speaker’s academic certificates were questionable and the anti-corruption agency was verifying them.

‘’There is an investigation going on about the speaker’s certificates, they are questioned, we are trying to verify the authenticity and genuineness of those certificates. That’s why we went searching for documents that can assist us wrap up the case,” said the EACC central region boss.

Other documents being scrutinised by EACC include, Curriculum vitae presented for the nomination as the speaker, duly filled biodata forms upon assumption of the office of the speaker, copy of national identification card and oath of office upon assumption of speaker’s office.
