The country expects at least five million international tourists annually by 2027.
Tourism and Wildlife CS Rebecca Miano, speaking at the Nanyuki Vocational Training Centre during the graduation of 430 students, who were undertaking various technical courses, pointed out that this move will boost employment opportunities for the youth.
Miano explained that in the past one year, the ministry had recorded a remarkable achievement of 2.4 global tourists, earning Sh452 billion in foreign currency.
“Tourism continues to grow, last year we recorded the highest number of visitors ever achieved in the country, ” she noted.
The CS revealed that over 80 percent of those working in the tourism sector were relatively young people below the age of 35, hence encouraged the youth to embrace technical courses to boost their absorption in the job market.
“Tourism is not only viewing wildlife, it’s about creating job opportunities for our youth, boosting businesses and other developments,” added Miano.
The CS, who was the chief guest during the event, was accompanied by the Migori women rep Fatuma Mohammed and her counterparts Ann Muratha (Kiambu) and Jane Kagiri (Laikipia), as well as the Kabete MP Githua Wamacukuru, who urged area residents to shun divisive politics and support the government of the day, so as to tap development projects.
The legislators further pushed for the two term re-election bid for the Kenya Kwanza administration.
The leaders faulted those critical of government projects, arguing that the initiatives were intended for the common good of the people.
For instance, they cited the Social Health Authority(SHA) roll out, which had turned around the ailing sector in the country.
The legislators also hailed the state for promoting locally made products by increasing taxes for the imported goods.
Equally, they enumerated some of the development projects the state was undertaking, aimed at uplifting living standards of the people.
Meanwhile, the leaders declared their unequivocal support for President Dr. William Ruto’s broad-based government, calling on politicians to shun early campaigns.
