Self-help groups in Khwisero sub county have received sh1.5 million from the Uwezo Fund to boost their economic ventures and strengthen grassroots development.
Issuing the cheques today, area MP Christopher Aseka urged beneficiaries to invest the funds wisely in projects that will uplift livelihoods and create lasting impact.
“The Uwezo Fund is instrumental in fostering economic independence, especially for women and youth groups. I urge all beneficiaries to prudently invest these resources in sustainable ventures that will improve household livelihoods, create jobs and enhance community resilience,” said Aseka.
The legislator noted that the revolving fund has empowered thousands of welfare groups across the country by promoting financial inclusion and entrepreneurship.
In Khwisero, several youth and women groups have previously benefited, with some venturing into poultry farming, retail shops and boda boda businesses.
Beneficiaries expressed optimism that the new disbursement will transform their lives.
“Our group plans to expand our agribusiness project. With this support, we believe we can create jobs for our members and support our families,” said Mary Nabwire, member of one of the groups.
Aseka reaffirmed his commitment to support such initiatives, noting that when communities thrive economically, the ripple effect is felt in education, healthcare and general wellbeing.
The Uwezo Fund, a flagship government empowerment programme, provides interest-free loans to self-help groups nationwide, with the goal of reducing poverty and accelerating grassroots development.
