Church urged to spearhead holistic societal transformation

Bishop Antony Mambo of the Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK), Nakuru Diocese, has challenged the church to be at the forefront in spearheading holistic societal transformation.

Bishop Mambo said 2026 is the year for the church to lead in bringing positive societal changes, despite the challenges being experienced.

The  cleric, who was delivering a sermon at the Nyahururu ACK Christ the King Cathedral during the ordination service, challenged the clergy to desist from maintaining the status quo in their churches and society at large, urging them to instead go out of their way and bring meaningful changes into the society.

The visiting Bishop, who was the guest speaker during the ordination ceremony, said there were always temptations to remain in the comfort zones, though the church is called to move from one glory to another.

“Time has come for us to move from one level to another, effecting positive changes holistically through diligently and willingly serving the church and community,” noted Bishop Mambo.

His sermon was delivered from the book of Isaiah, chapter 54:2 a biblical verse encouraging believers to expand their spiritual capacity and expectations, which forms the theme for this year’s Nyahururu Diocese ACK Church.

The cleric urged religious leaders to move out of the confinement of their churches into the society in order to be instruments of healing to the majority, who are wounded and looking for help.

“Go out and be a source of divine certainty to the many who are facing challenges and are doubting God’s intervention in their situations,” said Bishop Mambo, adding that God will direct them to be fruitful  in their ministries.

He also challenged the clergy to be at the forefront in preaching the right doctrine and directing their congregations in embracing the acceptable and godly societal  norms, which are being endangered by the influence of social media.

Bishop Mambo encouraged those ordained and admitted into various ministries to emphasise evangelism at the grassroots level to bring many to the church, while urging them to  put their trust in God and work diligently in their area of jurisdiction.

On his part, the Nyahururu Diocesan Bishop, Samson Gachathi, who hosted his Nakuru counterpart, said the ordination service is a reminder that the ministry is not confined to the sanctuary but must speak to the realities affecting the lives of our communities.

“As a diocese serving the people of Nyandarua County and Laikipia West, we cannot ignore the pressing issues confronting our nation,” noted bishop Gachathi touching on uncertainty in the current education sector as well as the rampant menace of illicit brews and substance abuse.

He called on the church to recommit itself to faithful service and moral leadership and advocate justice and the common good, pledging that the Diocese will walk with the local communities, speak the truth in love and uphold the dignity of every person, as well as cooperate with the government and all duty bearers to make the lives of the citizens better.
