Nyamira county celebrates candidates who excelled in 2025 KCSE

Two hundred and twelve out of 233 students who were awarded scholarships by the Nyamira county government attained a C+ (plus) or above grade in the 2025 KCSE examination results, thus qualifying for direct entry to public universities.

Presiding over the thanksgiving and celebration of the sterling performance with the successful students and parents at Uhuru Gardens in Nyamira town, Governor Amos Nyaribo said he is impressed with the performance of the first cohort, who were under his scholarship programme.

“I decided to support these bright but needy students to give them an opportunity to access education, a basic right for every child in this country. You have proved that you were worth the scholarship, and I challenge you to continue performing well at your various levels of tertiary education for further support,” Nyaribo advised.

He urged those who are benefiting from the scholarship in forms three and four to equally put great effort into their studies to excel when they undertake their national examination. He warned those in the scholarship not performing as expected risk losing that rare chance to those who are bright but needy with no one to support them financially.

CECM for Education Emily Ongaga attributed the good performance of students under the scholarship to good working relationships with head teachers in schools where the students were learning.

“We always organised mentorship sessions during the holidays for these scholars, and we counselled them because they were equally entangled in challenges like Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and mental challenges, and such programmes enabled them to remain focused on their studies; hence, the good grades which all of us are celebrating today,” CEC Ongaga said.

Among the students who were under the county scholarship is Beavon Onyancha from Nyambaria High School, who scored an A-. Onyancha is a partial orphan. He said the scholarship truly gave him a rare opportunity which none in his family could efficiently have managed. He thanked God for giving all the scholars good health and a sound mind to concentrate on their studies and score good grades. He urged all the scholars to continue working hard in their career paths of choice to come back and transform their families.
