Acting Bomet County Commissioner Reuben Ratemo has urged area residents to register and purchase the over 200 units of the government-funded Affordable Housing project in Bomet town that are nearly complete and ready for occupation.
Speaking in Bomet, Ratemo reiterated the government’s commitment to provide sound housing for the public as espoused in President William Ruto’s Bottom-up Economic Transformation agenda (BETA) pillars.
“The government is committed to improve the living standards of the people of Bomet through infrastructure development, economic empowerment and access to decent housing and it’s the responsibility of the public to enlist so as to benefit from the noble programme,” said Ratemo.
He appealed to public servants in the area to support the project by registering through Boma Yangu portal to not only qualify for available units, but also to enable the government to know the projected demand turnover to plan and avail houses accordingly.
Already, the first phase of the AHP in Bomet town is nearly complete, with 220 housing units ready for occupation. The president is set to open the units later.
The county government has since expressed readiness to give more land in Bomet town for the construction of a further 1,600 housing units as the project enters its second phase.
Only last month, Bomet Governor Hillary Barchok handed over another site to the State Department of Housing for the construction of 561 affordable housing units in Sotik town in Bomet County.
And Ratemo called upon residents to be in the frontline in purchasing the houses as a future investment for posterity.
He hailed President William Ruto for initiating the affordable housing project in the country, terming it a noble idea in addressing the housing challenge faced by Kenyans.
