A middle-aged man, Benson Kitui, has been sentenced to life imprisonment after being found guilty of defiling his 10-year-old granddaughter in Sasur Location, Cheptais Sub-County, Bungoma County.
Senior Resident Magistrate Raymond Lang’at of Sirisia Law Courts delivered the ruling on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, stating that the prosecution had proven the case beyond a reasonable doubt.
The verdict, he noted, warranted the maximum sentence under Kenyan law.
“The court has established that sexual offences against minors are taken with utmost seriousness. This judgement reinforces the judiciary’s commitment to safeguarding children and ensuring justice,” Magistrate Lang’at said during sentencing.
He further urged the public to report cases of child abuse and support initiatives aimed at protecting vulnerable children.
The sentencing comes amid national calls for strict enforcement of laws protecting minors and a zero-tolerance approach towards sexual offences.
Kitui appeared before Sirisia Law Courts where the judgement was read, marking a firm stance against sexual abuse within families and communities.
The ruling serves as a reminder that perpetrators of child sexual offences will face the full weight of the law, reinforcing the legal system’s role in protecting minors.
