Armed gang attack school watchman

Police in Nyando Sub-County, Kisumu County are investigating the assault of a night security guard, who suffered severe injuries from an attack by unknown assailants Sunday night.

The victim, identified as Raphael Munyuri Otinyi, a male adult, aged 57, worked as a night watchman at St. Anne’s Primary School within Ahero Township.

According to the police report, “Four armed men attacked the watchman on guard at St. Anne’s Primary School while on duty at around 01:30 am.”

He sustained three deep cuts on the head believed to have been inflicted using a sharp object.

The report further indicated that, “Otinyi also suffered some minor injuries on his left hand, right eye and around his neck.”

He is currently admitted at the Kamwanda Medical Health Centre in fair condition.

The Nyando Sub-County Police Commander, Isaiah Mose, confirmed that the authorities were notified of the incident by Erick Onyango, a supervisor of the Security firm and officers immediately rushed to the crime scene.

“Police officers visited the scene and established that the assailants gained entry to the school compound using the back fence by lifting the chain link,” he stated.

However, police reported that nothing was stolen from the school and the motive behind the attack was still under investigation.
