Grief engulfed central Kabwoch location in Ndhiwa Sub County after a man allegedly killed his 80-year-old father in-law.
The senior citizen identified as Clement Kotonya died after being attacked in his Kogola village home by his son in-law.
According to the area Chief Alphonse Odero, the son in-law reportedly sneaked into Kotonya’s home and pounced on him with an axe.
The deceased sustained serious injuries on the head and died on the spot.
“It is a bizarre incident because according to the Luo culture, in-laws are highly respected,” Odero said.
The administrator said the assailant had long running wrangles with his wife and in-law as well.
He said the assailant had accused his father in-law of hiding his estranged wife and child.
The incident occurred after the assailant’s wife reportedly took off from the matrimonial home with their child and some of property.
The assailant had been visiting the deceased to know the whereabouts of his child and property, but he had not succeeded to find them.
“The son in-law had previously complained that his wife had quit the marriage and disappeared with his property and child.
He has been visiting the home to demand the property and the child without success.” Odero said.
The Chief said they had planned a meeting with both parties in his office to square the differences.
He urged residents to avoid violence and taking the law into their hands.
“Let our people embrace arbitration whenever they fail to agree. Violence does not help,” Odero said.
The body was taken to Manyatta Kobodo mortuary.
