Kapsenetwet Primary School in Chemosot Ward, Bureti Sub-county, Kericho County, has expanded its Junior School infrastructure following the completion of a Sh1.2 million Grade 8 classroom, a development expected to improve learning conditions and support the implementation of Competency Based Education (CBE).
The newly constructed classroom has a capacity of 60 learners and is expected to ease pressure on existing facilities at the school, which has a total enrolment of 480 learners.
The project was fully funded by Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot, with plans underway to establish a resource centre at the school to enhance access to learning materials for both learners and teachers.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, Senator Cheruiyot said investment in education infrastructure remains critical in supporting the successful implementation of CBE.
He said improving school infrastructure goes beyond constructing buildings, noting that learners require safe, spacious and well-equipped classrooms to enhance concentration, participation and overall academic performance.
“Providing learners with a conducive learning environment enables them to actively participate in classroom activities and achieve better learning outcomes,” Cheruiyot said.
Chemosot Ward MCA Anita Biegon, who attended the event, said the additional classroom would significantly reduce congestion, improve classroom management and support effective teaching, especially among Grade 8 learners.
She urged the school administration, parents and learners to take responsibility for maintaining the new facility to ensure it serves current and future generations.
Parents and residents welcomed the completion of the classroom, saying the additional learning space would improve the school environment and support the institution’s growing population.
They noted that improved infrastructure would complement the efforts of teachers and learners in achieving better educational outcomes while creating a more supportive environment for the implementation of the new curriculum.
The school community expressed appreciation for the investment, saying continued support towards education infrastructure would help address challenges faced by learning institutions and improve access to quality education.
