Eldoret Water and Sanitation Company Limited (ELDOWAS) has revised its water and sewerage tariffs for the 2026/2027 to 2028/2029 tariff period, with domestic consumers set to pay up to Sh140 per cubic metre for water consumption exceeding 300 cubic metres.
Through a public notice dated August 28, 2026, ELDOWAS Managing Director, Dr. Lawrence Tanui, said the new tariffs had been revised in accordance with Gazette Notice No. 13176 dated August 14, 2026.
The revision comes months after residents of Uasin Gishu expressed displeasure over the 2024 water tariff structure, prompting legal action that resulted in the implementation of the tariffs being suspended by the court before the intervention of the Water Services Regulatory Board (WASREB).
ELDOWAS said the latest revision followed a further review and the parties’ consent to arbitration before the Water Tribunal under Appeal Case No. E006 of 2025.
The Company said WASREB, pursuant to Section 72 (1) (b) and (2) of the Water Act, 2016, had revoked the tariff structure published under Gazette Notice No. 12825 of 2024.
Under the revised structure, domestic and residential consumers will pay Sh84 per cubic meter for consumption of 1-6 cubic metres, Sh95 for 7-20 cubic metres, Sh110 for 21-50 cubic metres, Sh117 for 51-100 cubic metres, Sh128 for 101-300 cubic metres and Sh140 for consumption above 300 cubic metres.Multi-dwelling units will be charged Sh96 per cubic metre.
Commercial and industrial consumers will pay Sh108 per cubic metre for 1-50 cubic metres, Sh115 for 51-100 cubic metres, Sh130 for 101-300 cubic metres and Sh140 for consumption above 300 cubic metres.
Government institutions will pay similar rates of Sh108, Sh115, Sh130 and Sh140 across the respective consumption blocks.
Public schools, colleges, and universities will pay Sh88 per cubic metre for consumption of 1-600 cubic metres, Sh97 for 601-1,200 cubic metres and Sh109 for consumption above 1,200 cubic metres.
The revised structure also introduces charges for unique consumer categories, with bulk water supply priced at Sh60 per cubic metre and water kiosks at Sh88 per cubic metre.
For sewerage services, consumers with a water connection will be charged 75 per cent of the volume of water billed, at the applicable sewerage rates.
Domestic consumers will pay sewerage charges ranging from Sh63 to Sh110 per cubic metre, depending on consumption, while multi-dwelling units will be charged Sh72 per cubic metre.
Commercial and industrial consumers will pay between Sh83 and Sh110 per cubic metre, while government institutions will be charged between Sh83 and Sh110 per cubic metre.
Public schools, colleges, and universities will pay between Sh70 and Sh100 per cubic metre, depending on consumption.
ELDOWAS said a single-dwelling domestic unit without a water connection will pay Sh300 per month for sewerage services, while other categories without a water connection will be charged 75 per cent of the volume of water consumed from their metered source at the applicable rates.
The Company said the revised tariffs would apply for the remaining approved tariff period ending in 2028/2029 and urged customers to take note of the new charges as reflected in their water and sewerage bills.
