Senior government officials and parastatal heads have called on grassroots leaders to work closely with the current government to ensure accelerated development projects.
Speaking during a development-focused public engagement forum in Ithanga, Gatanga Constituency, the leaders dismissed claims by opposition leaders that such public engagements are part of the government’s campaign strategy.
They say such forums provide an opportunity to assess projects already implemented by the government, identify challenges and interact directly with residents, while also understanding their needs and focusing on priority areas for intervention.
“Development and improving the lives of our people is the government’s top priority at this time; we made promises during the last elections, and we are still committed to fulfilling them.”
“Remaining firmly behind the government will ensure that we tap more in terms of developments,” observed Sports PS Elijah Mwangi.
“I urge you to support the leaders working with the government instead of castigating them because if they join the opposition, chances are they will not be able to follow up and even deliver the promises made.”
PS Elijah cited some of the development projects that the government is implementing in Ithanga, including a modern market that will revitalise the economy of one of Murang’a County’s semi-arid areas.
“Once the market is complete, even the economy of this sub-county will improve, more job opportunities will sprout, and your farm produce, like mangoes and oranges, will easily get to consumers.”
Echoing similar sentiments, KICC Board Chairperson Samuel Waweru noted that the government continues to deliver the promises made by implementing numerous development projects across the country.
“We will continue supporting the government as it continues to implement and complete existing projects meant to uplift the lives of our citizens, so let us rally behind it, as continued cooperation between leaders and the national government will help deliver more to you,” he said.
The PS revealed that the country’s preparation to host the AFCON 2027 games is in top gear, with the Talanta Stadium construction already at 80 percent complete.
“Last week we had the Confederation of African Football delegation visiting, and they expressed satisfaction with the progress of the Talanta Stadium.
He noted that they identified key areas of improvement while also offering new guidelines which are well on course.
“We are prepared to host the Afcon games, and only a few areas of improvements are needed, like more kitchens and more spaces for the media, and that is well on course.”
