Governor Jeremiah Lomorukai has called on the newly appointed Turkana County Public Service Board members to uphold fairness, integrity, transparency and accountability in their work.
Speaking at the county headquarters during the swearing-in of the board secretary and five commissioners, he urged them to remain independent and resist improper influence.
He said competence, adherence to the law, merit, equity and the public interest should guide their decisions.
Those sworn in were Board Secretary Joyce Elimu and Commissioners Priscila Ateyo, Andrew Natebele, George Emoru, Samuel Eregae and Paul Lourien. Lodwar Court Senior Principal Magistrate Evanson Ngige administered the oath of office.
The Governor told the Board Secretary to uphold sound financial management, ensure responsible use of public resources, and run the Board’s operations in an organised, timely and transparent manner.
He reminded the officials that the oath they had taken carried significant responsibility.
Lomorukai also defended the appointments against criticism, maintaining that the commissioners met the required qualifications and merit.
He commended the County Assembly for following due process in vetting and approving the nominees and said the two arms of government would keep working together to serve Turkana residents.
Deputy Governor John Erus described the new members as competent and experienced in public service management and assured them of the county government’s support.
Senior officials present included County Secretary Dr Richard Ekai, Board Chairperson Peter Ekunyuk, Deputy County Secretary Joseph Nyang’a, and CECMs Roseline Aite (Finance) and Patrick Losike (Public Service).
Members of the County Assembly, led by Minority Leader Vincent Ekipor, welcomed the appointments. They commended the governor for considering regional representation and the two-thirds gender principle.
