A wedding ceremony in Garissa County was thrown into disarray after two of the expected guests were involved in a car accident while on their way to the event.
Confusion reigned during the event at Kotile village in Ijara sub-county when word went round that some guests were seriously injured after their car crashed along the Masalani –Kotile road after losing control.
Witnesses said two of the passengers sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Ijara Sub County Referral Hospital before medics recommended their relocation to Garissa Level Four referral facility for specialised treatment.
Police sources said preliminary reports into the incident indicated that the vehicle was speeding when it overturned and rolled several times and confirmed that there were no fatalities from the crash.
“There were no deaths reported but two youthful men, including the driver sustained some fractures and cuts, as one of the boys lost a finger,” a witness said.
Masalani Officer Commanding Police Station Mr Joseph Mulanda confirmed the incident, adding that a team was dispatched to the scene to establish circumstances that led to the accident.
He said the wreckage of the ill-fated car was later towed to the station but remained non-committal over the actual cause of the accident, claiming it was too early to speculate.
However, relatives of the casualties who visited the patients at the hospital confided that the duo might have caused the accident due to anxiety over the wedding, as they were in a convoy of speeding vehicles ferrying guests to the widely publicised ceremony.
