The Sh.270 million Gichugu Affordable Housing project in Kianyaga, Kirinyaga County is now complete and ready for occupation.
The 110 units’ project that was launched by the President in August 2022 comprises 40 2-bedroom units, 40-one bedroom and 30 studio apartments all available for purchase through Tenant Purchase Scheme (TPS).
The project has not only transformed the skyline of the Kianyaga town but also increased the investment as it will provide decent homes and modern living spaces to the residents working in local authorities, schools, hospitals and the business people.
During the construction phase 160 individuals got the opportunity to work for 2 years which enabled them to acquire skills for future workmanship in public and private projects.
Additionally, it created more indirect jobs off site such as eatery joints and in the sources of raw materials. Welding businesses, hardware shops, transport services attracted new investors keen on tapping new business ventures around the housing projects.
The project is strategically located near the Deputy County Commissioner’s office and Kianyaga Police Station within the town making it accessible and more secure.
Meanwhile, during the recent visit by the National Government Coordination Secretariat (NGCS), a technical coordination arm of the Office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary in Kenya, the team commended the workmanship in the project thanking the contractor for timely delivery.
They also encouraged Kenyans to purchase the houses and ignore the misinformation around it. To apply for the Affordable Housing Program, one can register through the Boma Yangu web portal (www.bomayangu.go.ke) or via USSD *832#.
