Agriculture industry stakeholders mourn aak-Grow CropLife CEO

The agricultural sector is in mourning following the sudden death of Eric Kimunguyi, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of aak-Grow/CropLife Kenya, who passed away on the night of Saturday, November 15, 2025, after a short illness.

Tributes are pouring in from across the industry and the country as a whole, highlighting his leadership, integrity, and unmatched commitment to advancing sustainable and science-driven agriculture in Kenya.

In an official announcement, aak-Grow/CropLife Kenya Chairperson, Wachira Mureithi, described Kimunguyi as “a dedicated leader and a passionate champion of sustainable agriculture,” noting that his contributions had left an indelible mark on the sector.

From the broader agribusiness community, ASNET Chair, Bimal Kantaria, paid tribute to Kimunguyi as “our stalwart in the agrochemicals industry for many years and very well respected in government and the private sector,” Kantaria added that the country had lost a reputable agriculture leader”.

National Potato Council of Kenya CEO, Wachira Kaguongo, echoed the sentiment, describing Kimunguyi as “an exemplary leader whose commitment to advancing sustainable agricultural practices in Kenya has left a lasting impact.”

He noted that Kimunguyi’s professionalism and collaborative approach had inspired many within the agricultural community.

The news also struck a personal chord among fellow industry leaders. FPEAK CEO, Hosea Machuki, who spoke with Kimunguyi just days before his passing, expressed shock, saying, “We have, no doubt, lost a very astute and very hardworking CEO.

Agriculture journalists will also remember the CEO as an open person, who engaged with journalists freely, always ready to comment on his expertise regarding agricultural policy and specifically on topics of pesticide use, misuse, food security, and combating illicit trade.
