Naivasha’s multi-agency security team has seized and destroyed the bhang worth over Sh3 million in an enhanced crackdown on illegal drug trade.
The security team said the bang was stocked in a rented house in Kayole estate on the outskirts of Naivasha town awaiting further distribution to end users.
According to Naivasha Deputy County Commissioner Josiah Odongo, the security team has been on high alert following reports of increased use of bangs among children and youths.
Odongo led its destruction in Naivasha and announced enhanced surveillance to root out the drug menace in the lakeside town while calling on citizens to report any incidents.
Odongo announced that they are pursuing the culprits involved in the illegal trade as well as the owner of the premises where the bang was seized who is on the run.
The DCC called on the youths to stop engaging themselves in the drug trade and rather in legal business activities to avoid legal consequences.
He put on notice bodaboda riders who he said have been at the forefront in peddling the drug around the vast sub-county and especially at informal settlements.
He added that due to increased surveillance and crackdowns on illegal trade, the traders have resulted in sourcing the drug from neighbouring countries, especially Tanzania.
The move comes months after another consignment of cannabis sativa was seized in the same Kayole estate by authorities where the DCC regretted the increased use of bhang by students.
