Awendo Boda Boda Sacco members have asked local politicians to desist from interfering with their right and freedom in electing their officials.
The Sacco, led by its interim Chairperson, Michael Abira, lamented that the previous elected leaders were politically installed against the will of the members, leading to the misappropriation of funds.
Abira lamented that the political class has been imposing leaders on them who have been siphoning the savings contributed through the boda boda empowerment programme over the years.
He claimed that already Sh1.62 million cannot be accounted for from the Sacco coffers, something that the Sacco members are keenly following to ascertain how the cash was utilized.
The Sacco official said that even though the empowerment programme is welcome, the political class within the County should let the boda boda Sacco elect judicious leaders, whom they will trust to protect their Sacco funds.
Okinyi Onyolo, the interim Secretary General of the Sacco, asserts that the members have the free will to choose whoever they think is fit to hold the positions within the Sacco.
“We want to elect people that we know so that we can have trust in running our Sacco fairs”, said Onyolo.
He was saddened that the finances gathered and contributed by members for many years could go down the drain without proper accountability or arrest of the perpetrators.
“It pains us to see that what we have been contributing over the years can be looted and misappropriated for things that do not benefit the Sacco members,” lamented Onyolo.
