‘Boda boda’ vital sector in the economy, Women Representative

Makueni County Women Representative Rose Museo, has hailed the Bodaboda sector, describing it as an important segment in  the country’s economy that supports and uplifts the living standards of many people in the society.

Museo said that the ‘boda boda’ industry should be respected, protected and accorded the security they need, in order to operate in a conducive environment that will boost local economies from families to the nation at large.

She made the remarks Thursday, at the National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF) offices in Wote town, where she handed over a cheque of Sh300,000 to MA BodaBoda Sacco.

The Member of Parliament (MP) lauded the ‘boda boda’ sector in the area for being organized, saying they will achieve much if they continue with such unity and orderliness.

“In the recent past, the ‘boda boda’ sector has been regarded as a group of messy and criminal people, however, now you have changed the narrative. Now you appear more structured than before,” said Museo when she addressed the riders.

“I urge leaders, residents and the police to support and respect the ‘boda boda’ sector, as it is a very important pillar in the economy of our county and the country at large,” she said.

Museo observed that ‘boda bodas’ are used to take women to hospital during labour, ferry children to schools besides helping many people to beat traffic jams, especially in urban areas.

During the meeting, the MP reminded the youth that it is imperative for them to form new or join already registered groups and SACCOs in order to benefit from various government programmes.

Also, at the event, eight individuals dealing with salons in Wote town were given hair dryers.
