Residents of Busia County have been urged to embrace and visit Alupe Sub-county Hospital for health services to decongest Busia County Referral Hospital.
Speaking at Bondeni village in Teso South Sub-county, Angorom Ward, Member of County Assembly (MCA), James Ong’ole, said the Hospital, which has returned to normal services after having been an isolation centre during the Covid-19 pandemic is offering excellent services and residents should take the advantage.
“The Hospital has been serving as an isolation centre during the Covid-19 pandemic but recently, it returned to normal services to serve our people. I urge us to use the facility because the services are good and the facility is accepting SHA,”.
Ong’ole further asked the expectant women to seek maternity services at the facility stating that it is well equipped serve them, adding that it has enough maternity wards.
“When the enrollment of SHA was happening, many people were not believing it but today, every one of us has a testimony. It is on these grounds that we are calling for those who are yet to register to do so because there is a lot of benefit,” he said.
On infrastructure, the MCA stated that construction of houses on roads reserve areas is a challenge to the expansion of the roads in the area.
“Many people have constructed structures on road reserves and that has made it difficult to expand the roads. I want to ask all residents who are on road reserves to remove their structures so that it can pave way for expansion of the roads in the area. The structures are also affecting the drainage in the area, especially during the rainy season,” he said.
Ong’ole at the same time asked the youth to form groups through which they can benefit from grants that are available in Busia County, stating that this will boost their living standard.
“We have grants for groups that are serious and ready to develop. We have empowered many groups in development and projects such as poultry farming. I call on the youth and women to form groups with proper documents, so that they benefit with the grants that will empower them,” he said.
He also urged the security agencies in the County, to help in curbing insecurity currently being experienced in area.
“We are asking our police to handle the insecurity cases that are being experienced in our county. We are also asking our youth to be keen on who they associate with. And as citizens, we ought to work closely with the security agencies. When you suspect someone, report to the authorities and not take the law in our hand,” he said.
Busia County nominated MCA Beatrice Opwapo urged the residents to support the leaders in power for better service delivery.
“I want to urge that we respect all the leaders who are elected for us to realize the development. Let us not politicize everything because there is time for politics, but for now it’s time to work for our people,” she said.
