A free medical camp held at Malaba Township Primary School grounds in Teso North Sub- County witnessed an overwhelming turnout of clients, a testament of the need for health care services in the area.
The beneficiaries who came from both within and outside Busia County expressed heartfelt appreciation for the professional healthcare services they received.
The medical camp, organized through a partnership between the County Government of Busia and the M-Pesa Foundation, offered comprehensive healthcare services including general doctor consultations, women’s health services, cancer screening, eye care consultations, dental screening, disability assessment and therapy services, immunization, and other essential medical services.
During the official opening of the camp, Arthur Odera, the Busia County Deputy Governor and CECM for Health and Sanitation emphasized the critical importance of regular health check-ups, particularly for residents above 40 years of age. He highlighted the need for early detection of non-communicable diseases, which often remain undiagnosed until advanced stages.
“Early diagnosis can save lives,” Deputy Governor Odera stated, urging the community to make regular health screenings a priority. He particularly encouraged young girls to receive the HPV vaccine, which provides crucial protection against cervical cancer, noting that the county is actively working to enhance awareness and sensitization about HPV vaccination,”
The Deputy Governor also announced an upcoming Fistula medical camp scheduled to begin on July 18th, 2025, which will help affected women regain their dignity and sense of motherhood through specialized medical intervention.
Other partners who participated in the medical camp included ZURI Health, Lions SightFirst Eye Hospital, and Kenya Institute of Special Education among others.
The County Government of Busia remains committed to bringing quality healthcare services closer to the people through such partnerships and community outreach programs.
